League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo County
Adopted Program for 2025-2027

Civic Education and Information Literacy
Provide educational programs on how government works, the importance of voting and civic involvement, and how to tell fact from fiction. Establish collaborations with Cal Poly and Cuesta College and work with the high schools to educate students. Develop social media skills to reach younger audiences. Monitor government meetings and decision making to ensure transparency and accountability, promote civility, and counter misinformation.

Housing & Homelessness
Educate on how the broken housing market impacts our entire community. Support initiatives and organizations that work to provide decent housing, prevent homelessness, and ensure food security for everyone in our communities. Monitor programs that support tenant rights, foster landlord responsibility, and work to prevent evictions. Support health initiatives that deter homelessness.

Environmental Stewardship & Climate Resiliency
Monitor and report on the local impacts of climate change. Support clean energy efforts and policies and programs that protect water resources, air quality, and parks and green space in the county. Advocate for sound management, emergency preparedness, and hazard mitigation to deal with fires and other natural disasters.

Immigration & Civil Rights
Work with other organizations to educate on immigrant rights, citizenship, and civil liberties. Counter misinformation about immigration. Work to educate the public on how immigration affects all of us and assuage the fears of immigrant communities to ensure that everyone is counted in the 2030 census.

The LWVUS offers a publication titled Impact on Issues. This is an indispensable resource for League members. It provides a clear understanding of the LWVUS positions, how they interrelate, and how they can complement and reinforce state, local, and regional Inter-League Organization (ILO) positions, and strengthen the League’s impact on issues at all levels of government. Principles to be incorporated into all of our education and advocacy efforts:

Diversity, equality and inclusion, including the need to change the language of social, economic, and environment justice to address, not "systemic racism" but the systemic obstacles" to justice for all.

Information Literacy,
including the importance of facts, science, and truth in the media and other communications, and countering misinformation.

For more information about our positions, see our Member Handbook (member only document).
