The City of Paso Robles has been celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. since 1990 with an annual community event. The focus of this coming year’s celebration on Monday, January 19, 2026, will be to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King while focusing on his enduring call to service.

Community Celebration | 9-10 am

Begin the day in City Park with a celebration of Dr. King’s enduring message of unity, hope, and service. The program features inspiring guest speakers and uplifting musical performances in his honor.

This year, there will be two service opportunities where neighbors can give back together. As Dr. King reminded us, β€œEveryone can be great, because everyone can serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” Join us in honoring his vision through action.

Celebration may be canceled due to weather conditions

Service Opportunities | 10-11:30 am

Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds (TRUTH) Act Forum

πŸ“… January 27, 2026, Time TBA
πŸ“ SLO County Board of Supervisors Chambers
      1055 Monterey Street, SLO

A California law, the TRUTH Act, requires local law enforcement to hold annual community forums if they allow ICE access to individuals. The SLO County Sheriff’s office will conduct the mandated TRUTH Act Forum at the January 27 meeting of the SLO County Board of Supervisors. The time to be announced in advance of the meeting. The TRUTH Act Hearing will be broadcast on the Board of Supervisors live meeting at: https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/

According to the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, 70% of ICE arrests result from transfers of undocumented individuals to ICE from other law enforcement agencies. The TRUTH Act requires that before law enforcement agencies can allow ICE to interview an undocumented individual in custody, they must present that individual with a written consent form in a language they understand. An undocumented individual can decide whether or not to be interviewed. If they choose to be interviewed, they may require that their lawyer be present.
